Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima who is more simply known as Ronaldo, was born on 22 September 1976 in Bento Ribeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. He is a Brazilian national who plays for AC Milan and Brazil’s national team.

Ronaldo started playing football in the streets like many other kids in this poor Brazilian neighborhood. At the age of 14 Ronaldo was spotted by a World Cup winning Brazilian named Jairzinho. Who recommended Ronaldo to the Brazil youth team and got him a spot with his former club Cruzeiro Esporte Clube.

Ronaldo’s first year as a professional aged 17 saw him scoring 12 goals from 14 games, scoring all 3 winning goals in the state championship and receiving his first national team selection. Ronaldo was soon transferred to the Dutch side PSV Eindoven and had another stunning season scoring 54 goals from 57 games. This was more than enough for a certain Spanish giant to come knocking.

In 1996 Ronaldo was transferred to FC Barcelona. This was the start of even greater achievements. Scoring 47 goals from 49 games for FC Barcelona, winning two consecutive FIFA World Player of the Year awards and being transferred to Internazionale and scoring 49 goals from 68 games. The massive goal scoring potential of Ronaldo cemented him as one the worlds best football strikers.

During the 1998 World Cup Final in France, the dream run Ronaldo had so far experienced started to change. The morning before Brazil was scheduled to play France in the final, Ronaldo suffered a convulsive fit. This should have rendered him unfit to play, but he battled on and played in the final. It was clear to see he was nowhere near the usual brilliant Ronaldo. Brazil lost the final.

On 21 November 1999, it all went wrong for Ronaldo. During a match he injured his knee and was forced to limp of the field, having ruptured a tendon in his right knee. He had surgery and returned to the pitch 4 months later only to injure his recently repaired knee again. At the time it seemed like this would end the Ronaldo scoring machine, but to his credit the Brazilian made a recovery after a further 13 months of rehabilitation.

In 2002 Ronaldo showed the world he was back. The first sign of his return to form was being selected to Brazil’s national team for the FIFA Soccer World Cup. He then went on to score 8 goals out of 7 games. Became the top goal scorer at the world cup and at the same time equaled Pele’s total world cup goals record at 12 goals. Which helped Brazil win the soccer world cup. Then after being transferred to Real Madrid he completed a dream debut. Scoring 2 goals in a match winning performance. As if this was not enough for 2002 he then went on to win the FIFA World Player of the year award for the third time in his career.

In 2003 Ronaldo won the La Liga Championship with Real Madrid. A team that was signing the best players it could get its hands on. With such vast amounts of talent at Real Madrid and an underachieving Ronaldo. The last 3 years have been relatively quiet for Ronaldo. Thou he did become the top goal scorer in the history of the FIFA World Cup with 15 goals in all his appearances at 2006 FIFA World Cup. What an awesome players profile he has.

On the 30th of January 2007 Ronaldo joined AC Milan. “I believe that just being at Milan is a great motivation… I want to show everyone who I still am.” Ronaldo 2/2/2007
